Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi - Season 1 (2022) Cre: Dave Filoni

Instagram post:

Going into this, I assumed that this animated anthology series would be comprised of purely random and inconsequential stories, made purely for fan service. However, it ended up being so much more than that.

Created by Dave Filoni and Charles Murray, this 6 episode series tells a collection of short stories that build on character and narrative lore in the Star Wars universe, with a focus on the prequel trilogy era.

Each episode adds a little extra depth and context to the preexisting Star Wars content, specifically the Clone Wars and Revenge Of The Sith, which I found very satisfying. The series uses the same animation style as The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, which is one that I am particularly fond of.

The episodes are less than 20 minutes long each, which makes for a very bibgeable and easy to watch show. It also features a lot of returning characters and cast members from The Clone Wars, which makes it that much better.

My personal highlights were episodes 2, 3 and 6, which were particularly insightful. The series also sets up a second season nicely, something I am definitely looking forward to seeing, whenever it arrives on Disney Plus.

Actor performances that stood out for me, come from the likes of Corey Burton, Ashley Eckstein and Terrence C. Carson, whom all return to familiar roles in the franchise.

I also enjoyed the returning voices of Matt Lanter and Liam Neeson. Neeson's appearance was particularly surprising, but also especially enjoyable.

Finally, I'll give mentions to some of the other noteworthy names that appear in the series; Janina Gavankar, Micheál Richardson, Brian George, Ian McDiarmid, James Arnold Taylor, Theo Rossi, Phil LaMarr, Dee Bradley Baker, Bryce Dallas Howard and Clancy Brown.

Overall, I love the idea of this show. Each episode gives fans a different and fascinating look at smaller stories from the Star Wars universe.

I wasn't sure how relevant the stories would be to the wider Star Wars canon, but I was very pleasantly surprised, as each episode gave so much more depth to the prequel era and characters.
