The Mandalorian: Season 3 (2023) Cre: Dave Filoni

Instagram post:

One of the best things Disney has green-lit since their buyout of Lucasfilm has been, this immensely popular series, created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The first two seasons were met with great acclaim, which left expectations high for this third season, which was compiled of 8 episodes.

Now, the opening episode was fun, but the timeline may confuse people who aren't up to date with what the creators have said (time has passed since season 2 in-universe).

From there, the series settles into its story, which, for the most part, is pretty strong, although it could have done with more urgency. That said, there is one episode in particular that fans seemed not to enjoy, and in fairness, it was a strangely slow episode.

The last two episodes were the best of the season though, with some brilliantly captivating moments and intriguing story developments. However, there were definitely some questionable narrative choices, that have understandably peft fans divided, myself included.

I love that Disney has clearly put a lot of money into the series, with the show having some amazing visuals. The cinematography is really pleasing, and the CGI is really solid, for the most part.

Pedro Pascal continues his consistent run as the popular bounty hunter, with this role seeming to come naturally to him. While this role doesn't require much in the way of facial expressions, Pascal makes sure to use his body language and movement effectively throughout the show.

Katee Sackhoff excels in her larger role this season, with a really strong performance, especially in the fourth and fifth episodes. I have grown more fond of her in this role, nearly episode by episode, and this season sees her do some of her best work.

Giancarlo Esposito returns once more, with his signature screen presence solidifying him as am excellent continuing antagonist in the Star Wars universe.

I'll also mention a number of the other noteworthy cast members who contributed this season; David Acord, Katy M. O'Brian, Carl Weathers, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Omid Abtahi, Ahmed Best, Mercedes Varnado, Jack Black, Lizzo and Christopher Lloyd.

Overall, whilst this isn't the strongest season of the show, it still contained a lot of enjoyable moments, and hinted at some exciting developments in the Star Wars cinematic universe. With season 4 in the early stages of writing, it will be a relatively long wait for the next season, but I for one am excited already.
