There is no doubt that this has become a 90s cult classic, beloved by many. Its quirky characters and of-the-decade fashion and comedy make for an immensely fun teen horror.
Director Andrew Fleming adds a little fantasy flair to his story, allowing his actors to emphasise his eccentric storytelling and style.
The narrative is a little messy at times, but the fundamental story is solid and has some good developments and arcs.
The cast is led by Robin Tunney, who makes for a witty and endearing protagonist, although, I'm sure fans will agree she's not really the star of the film.
I would say that goes to Fairuza Balk, who is incredibly memorable and bewitching. Her commitment to the strange and the silly makes her performance that much better, as she utilises her character's unhinged nature to overperform at just the right times.
Scream and Riverdale star Skeet Ulrich provides a decent portrayal of his supporting character, nailing the arrogance and charisma of the role.
Other noteworthy cast members include Scream's Neve Campbell, Rachel True, Christine Taylor and Breckin Meyer, who all provide more quirky American teen fun.
Overall, this is a flamboyant and highly enjoyable film that oozes of the 90s aesthetic in the best ways. It's easy to see why this film is so popular, especially for the generation who grew up in the mid to late 90s.
