Star Wars: The Clone Wars [Season 3] (2011) Dir: Dave Filoni

The third season's change in tone is reflected with an update to the appearances of the characters to a more 'Revenge Of The Sith' style. The series begins to feel more adult than not, with some distinctly dark themes and storylines that feel more reminiscent of Episode 3's aesthetic and tone.

The series saw the return, or at least a tease, of one of the most underutilised characters in the cinematic saga. Other notable episodes include the early Arc Trooper episodes, which are ones I especially remember enjoying thoroughly when I was younger and watching this for the first time.

The series also features one of my favourite arcs of the whole show; those being the Mortis episodes. I'll also say that the Citadel arc is also pretty interesting towards the end of the season.

Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein and James Arnold Taylor each return in their lead roles, and provide some excellent performances across the vast number of episodes, particularly the Mortis arc.

Dee Bradley Baker once again voices Rex and the other clones, and continues his stoic consistency and ability to create variety in his characters.

Tom Kane; the voice Yoda, Admiral Yularen and the series narrations, performs wonderfully yet again. His narration in particular is absolutely iconic and an inseperable feature of the show.

Finally, it is also very much worth mentioning the likes of Ian Abercrombie, Terrence C. Carson, Star Wars legend Anthony Daniels, Nika Futterman, Matthew Wood and Catherine Taber - who all contribute to the vast and wonderful series in a myriad of ways.

Overall, this was the best season so far - it's shift towards the darker side of Star Wars was very welcome and allowed for a lot more depth in character and story arcs that the more child-friendly style could not have.
