Star Wars: The Clone Wars [Season 2] (2009) Dir: Fave Filoni

In 2009, the second season of one of my all time favourite shows was released. After the success of the debut season, expectations were high for this. Towards the end of season 1, things got a little more serious, and this trend continues in season 2.

The events and themes get a little darker and more grown up. The storylines feel more serious, but there is still plenty of positivity and humour throughout. The series again has 22 episodes, which is a lot, but I think it was just about alright to get through.

Matt Lanter returns as Anakin, and continues to perform well in his substantial role. The character, under his performative guidance, continues to go from strength to strength in this series, being able to exhibit far more than in the prequel trilogy.

Ashley Eckstein doubles down on her status as the best new character in the Clone Wars season. If anything, she becomes more likeable and endearing than ever.

James Arnold Taylor continues to show his immense vocal talents as Obi-Wan - I will never not be impressed by his ability to replicate Ewan McGregor's Kenobi voice to such an accurate and entertaining degree.

Dee Bradley Baker, of 'Spongebob SquarePants' and 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' fame, once again voices Captain Rex and the other clonetroopers. He makes each clone feel unique and like an individual character, which is not an easy feat.

Tom Kane, who voices Yoda and Admiral Yularen, along with narrating the cold opens for each episode, is as consistent as ever - his recognisable voice being among the best of the series.

Finally, mentions go to the likes of Ian Abercrombie, Terrence C. Carson, Star Wars legend Anthony Daniels, Nika Futterman, Matthew Wood and Catherine Taber - each giving noteworthy performances throughout their time in the series.

Overall, I would say this series, in many ways, is a step up from the first. The stories delve deeper into the Star Wars universe and provide further character development and lore to a number of less featured characters from the films.
