Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Season 3 (2024) Cre: Dave Filoni

Instagram post:

The third and final season of this animated Star Wars season was one I looked forward to with great excitement, considering how much I had enjoyed the previous two seasons. Creator Dave Filoni had done a fairly good job of comprising some entertaining episodes and fun characters in a show whose legacy lies with The Clone Wars series, which is so beloved.

The animation style continued to be very enjoyable and pretty high quality - this show has really been a treat, in terms of animation, compared to The Clone Wars and Rebels. In particular, the explosions are something that has very clearly improved, in that aspect.

Something that has translated really nicely from the final season of The Clone Wars, has been the atmospheric feel of the episodes. Each one feels important, and mixes the lighthearted themes with some more serious topics. The story also continued to have some strong emotional themes running through it, which, with the end approaching, made it very watchable.

The final season set up and referenced a lot of other Star Wars content and storylines - some pretty subtly - which was something I really enjoyed. I love that The Bad Batch has utilised a fair few underrated or underutilised elements of other Star Wars content.

The series narrative was pretty strong throughout, and provided fans with a lot of great scenes and episodes to find enjoyment in. I will say, I was slightly surprised by the ending, in that I expected it to be a little more negative. However, I'm not disappointed by how the show ended - it was nice to see the culmination of these character's story.

Michelle Ang has some well performed moments, especially in the second half of the season. I think she really grew in the role so nicely. The talented Dee Bradley Baker, a legend of Star Wars animated creations, of course played his many parts to near-perfection once more.

The likes of Jimmi Simpson, Noshir Dalal, Wanda Sykes, Rhea Perlman and Gwendoline Yeo provided the most memorable and noteworthy voice acting of the supporting cast members.

Overall, I have really enjoyed this series. I think it has served as a very worthy follow-up to The Clone Wars and Rebels shows, and has given its audience so much to love and get excited about - including in regards to the future of the Star Wars franchise. I for one hope there is more to come from this part of the galaxy far, far away - especially with this animation style.
