Solar Opposites: Season 2 (2021) Cre: Justin Roiland & Mike McMahan

Season 2 of this adult animated comedy series starts far better than the last season did, in my view. Where the first few episodes of the debut season barely enticed me, to the point of ditching the show entirely, this follow up season had me invested immediately.

The overall arc of both the primary and secondary storylines had some genuinely excellent comedic moments, mixed in with a number of unexpected and emotional ones - which, I'm coming to realise, is a talent that show creators Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan seem to specialise in.

This season features even more of the epic subplot from the first season that I became so enamoured with, and continues to develop it very well between the usual hijinks and silly antics of the show's protagonist aliens.

The self-aware and meta commentary is back with a vengeance too - and this show is an example of that being done right, which is to say, just the right amount not to be insanely irritating.

I found this season to be delightfully enjoyable from start to finish, including a bizarre but very humorous Christmas special to end the season. Once this show found its footing, it never looked back.

Overall, it is clear that the characters and the stories have seen clear improvement since those first few episodes. I for one am very excited to start season 3 as soon as I can.
