Avatar: The Last Airbender - Book 3: Fire (2007) Cre: Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko

Ridley Coote

Having raced through the first two volumes with great pleasure, I was more than eager to watch this final season of one of the most loved and acclaimed children's animated series ever. This final season, or 'book', was the one I remembered the least of, from when I watched it as a child, which gave me even more reason to look forward to watching it.

This was, without a doubt, the funniest season of the three, in my opinion. I think the writers got so much of the comedy just right, and never strayed from what made the first two 'books' so much fun. It was so easy to watch this series, thanks to its light and entertaining feel, though the show also continued to exhibit plenty of deeper moments and themes too.

It was great to see how the series continued to sustain and develop its characters across all three seasons, but particularly as deep into the show's lifespan as its final few episodes. The characters and storylines all fed into the overarching storylines of the season - everything felt important

The narrative was really strong this season, particularly the four-part finale, which was utterly phenomenal. I loved the way everything built and built and built, up until the final battle. It was a truly epic climax to a brilliant show. It had meaning, it had impact, it had high stakes - I think it may be one of the best endings to a show I've seen in a long time.

Overall, it felt only right that this show finished on such a strong note. It has been such a joy for me to revisit this series - it was both nostalgic and refreshing, and so unbelievably fun. I will no doubt be revisiting this show again sometime sooner than later. It's just too fun to forget about. Everyone should watch 'Avatar' all the way through, at least once.
