WWE World's Collide: September 2025

ree

With the recent return of the 'World's Collide' events, thanks to the purchase of Mexican wrestling promotion AAA, WWE has another gem for their many fans to enjoy. With that said, the night's action was at least somewhat overshadowed the controversial news that WWE would be holding WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia, who have been under fire for years for their human rights issues, a topic which has been a consistent source of anger for WWE fans since the deal happened in the first place. In spite of this drama, I was still hoping to enjoy some great lucha libre.

After the customary initial pageantry of the introductions, including a passionate promo from the ever-popular Penta, it was time for the action to begin, starting with an eight-man tag team match, pitting Octagón Jr, Laredo Kid, La Parka, and Mascarita Sagrada, against Lince Dorado, Abismo Negro Jr, and LWO's Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde. This was a great way to start the show, with eight high-flying, fun-having, exuberant wrestlers going toe-to-toe. The crowd absolutely loved the chaos that this match became, and both teams seem to feed on that. Sagrada was the clear standout, which should come as little surprise, considering his reputation as a "mini" wrestler. The finish was a little awkward, but the overall entertainment of the match was undeniable.

Next up was a number one contender's match to determine the next challenger for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, with Faby Apache taking on WWE legend Natalya. This was a cool opportunity to watch two of the best female wrestlers and vererans of the industry. This was a physical match, with no quarter given, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This version of Natalya is so refreshing and enjoyable to watch, and is all the evidence she needed to show just how good and how underrated she has always been. I thought this was a really fun match, and one I'd happily see run back in the future.

The third match of the evening saw the New Day, represented by Kofi Kingston and Grayson Waller, challenge Psycho Clown and Pagano for the AAA Tag Team Championships. This match was worked in a far more WWE style than most of the others that have featured AAA stars thus far, but it was still decent. I'd argue it was a little slower than I'd hoped, but it still had some solid tag team wrestling throughout its runtime. The post-match segment was a really nice surprise, and set-up a very cool future match-up, no doubt at an upcoming crossover event.

Following this was a mixed tag match between the team of Mr. Iguana and Lola Vice, and Judgement Day's Finn Balor and Roxanne Perez. I really enjoyed seeing the little comedy bits between Balor and Iguana - it's been fun to see the light side of Finn on full display. Meanwhile, Vice continued her meteoric rise, and worked well opposite 'The Prodigy' Perez. This was such an entertaining match, and honestly one of the highlights of the night. These comedy matches have been some of the most enjoyable moments of these WWE and AAA-infused shows.

The penultimate match of the night saw El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jr defend the AAA Latin American Championship against WWE competitors; JD McDonagh, Ethan Page, and Dragon Lee. With the talent in the ring, I was not surprised to see how good this fatal-4-way was. The action was as frenetic and unpredictable as it gets, and had a number of very exciting spots, which kept me very invested. McDonagh was my MVP, as he continued to show how under-appreciated he is. This was a terrific title match, and a great exhibition of what all four of these men bring to the table.

At last, it was time for the main event, which saw El Hijo Del Vikingo defend his AAA Mega Championship against the WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominic Mysterio. This felt like a big-time match, and a potential turning point for Mexican lucha libre; two of the best young wrestlers in the world facing off for one of the most storied championships in wrestling. This was a really stellar match, full of solid wrestling, high drama, and great false finishes. The crowd was eating it all up, especially the more dramatic sequences towards the end. The end saw history made, which was incredibly special to watch. It was a very cool moment, and speaks volumes about how WWE feel about the winner.

Overall, this was yet another fun WWE and AAA crossover event, topped off by a brilliant pair of title matches and a truly historic moment to end to the night. I was once again reminded of just how much fun lucha libre can be, and even though not every match was a world-beater, I still found the show's overarching quality to be pretty strong. I hope that these events continue to develop, and that we start to see more rivalry-based matches, instead of mostly just random tag team bouts, as fun as most of them have been.
