WWE Royal Rumble 2025

The first proper Premium Live Event of the year can mean only one thing; time for one of my favourite events of the year; the 'Royal Rumble' event. It is routinely one of the best nights of the wrestling year, and often throws up a host of surprises, returns, debuts, and carnage. I was hoping tonight would be no exception. Its safe to say that the matchcard had a lot of potential, especially the truly stacked men's rumble match.

The night started, unsurprisingly, with one of the two Royal Rumble matches - this year the women opened up the card. This looked fairly open and had a lot of potential. There were a lot of great moments and spots, including some amazing surprises, returns and debuts. I thought that the crowd was a bit inconsistent, but the action in-ring was strong. It was a phenomenal women's rumble, although I personally wasn't big on the winner. I get why they were selected, but it wasn't who I'd have picked.

The second match of the evening was the 2-Out-Of-3-Falls match for the World Tag Team Championships, between the champs; DIY, and the challengers; the Motor City Machine Guns. The chemistry between both teams was off the charts, and the match played out at a very fast pace, for the most part. The crowd felt a little burnt out by the rumble before it, but they did get louder and louder as the match went on. The ending was a bit surprising, but slightly botched. I wasn't the biggest fan of it, it was a bit random.

Following this came the ladder match for the WWE Undisputed Championship, with champion Cody Rhodes defending against the unhinged Kevin Owens. I thought this could be match of the night, so it's fair to say that my hopes were high. The crowd finally woke up fully and were loud and engaged from the off, which was great to see. Unsurprisingly, this was a physical, back-and-forth brawl. There were some absolutely brutal looking spots throughout the match. It looked like a very painful ordeal for the two men to undergo. The climactic spot was very cool, and, for my money, the right man won. I've enjoyed this rivalry a lot, and look forward to what both men do at WrestleMania.

Finally, it was main event time, which meant the men's Royal Rumble match - I cannot stress enough how stacked this rumble looked. The match got off to a great start, with the first two picks being two certified legends of the business. And it only got better from there. It was an insanely fast-paced match throughout the earlier stages. Things slowed down but the star power only increased. It was an insanely star-studded match, full of high drama and extreme chaos. The only bad thing about this match was the last entrant and the role they played. Beyond that, I loved this. It may be the beat rumble ever, in terms of sheer star power and drama. I also loved the winner - it was fresh, it made sense, and it was very popular.

Overall, this was a crazy night of wrestling, but a truly great one, for the most part. Yes, there were some iffy moments here and there, but they certainly weren't enough to take the shine off of a stellar evening of entertainment. It sets up WrestleMania 41 to be yet another huge event, and gave audiences so many stories to invest in and get excited about. I for one cannot wait to see how all of this shakes out.
