My anticipation for this Chris Sanders directed Dreamworks production ramped up exponentially upon watching a trailer for it a month or two ago. The knowledge that it was the same animation style as that of 'Puss In Boots: The Last Wish' only excited me even more.

First and foremost, the film had an absolutely incredible soundtrack. It was just so perfect for the film. It felt like an adventure in its own right. Thematically, it was on point. It complimented the events on-screen so wonderfully, especially for the last thirty minutes of the film.

I don't need to tell you just how stunning the animation was, but I will anyway. It was, quite simply, beautiful. It has that combination of detailed and simplified animation that looks both amazing and cohesive. Unsurprisingly, the colours and lighting were particularly superb.

The narrative was emotional storytelling at its finest. There were so many strong family and learning based themes, which gave the film such heart and soul. It was so well composed that it was impossible not to feel every little twist and turn that the characters went on. I loved every step of this adventure.

Lupita Nyong'o blew me away with this starring role. I thought she encapsulated the emotion and journey of her character absolutely perfectly. She balanced the robotic and emotionless side of her character with the emotive and expressive side, which made her character feel both unique and endearing.

Pedro Pascal was so cheeky and charismatic with his vocal acting here - honestly, it was perfect casting. It was so enjoyable listening to his performance; he really matched up with his character's design and personality so nicely.

Kit Connor was yet another strong performer in this film. I think he really came into his own in the final half an hour of the film, where his character's journey gave him more opportunity to be expressive, which Connor did excellently.

In regards to what is a stacked supporting cast, I thought that Bill Nighy was the most enjoyable, though, in truth, everyone was so wonderful. I simply have to mention the likes of Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Katherine O'Hara and Mark Hamill as well.

Overall, I loved it, plain and simple. I think this is one of the best films I've seen all year, without a doubt. It was so beautiful in so many ways, and hit me right in the heart time and time again. The film had such a lovely array of characters, and took them on a truly delightful adventure.
