Part of me really wants to believe that this is a true story from Jack Black's life, because honestly it definitely could be, such is the hilarious and bizarre nature of the man.
This film is flamboyant, funny and extremely ridiculous in the best ways possible. The story is silly and wild, but it works - it never takes itself too seriously, but still manages to carry a relatively solid narrative throughout.
The chemistry between the two main actors is understandably brilliant, their ability to not take themselves remotely seriously is great to see. Director Liam Lynch did well to work with that and build the hilarity around it.
Jack Black unsurprisingly is the MVP of this one, his charisma, energy and comedic timing all contributing towards a hoot of a performance.
Kyle Gass is also fun here, but he just isn't as charismatic as Black. That said, his almost naive and innocent stupidity makes for a great combination with his co-star.
An appearance I did not expect was that of Nirvana and Foo Fighters band member Dave Grohl, who plays the film's main antagonist. I genuinely did not recognise him, but that said, I thoroughly enjoyed his character.
There are also appearances from music legend Meat Loaf and even a brilliant, albeit brief, cameo from the one and only Ronnie James Dio.
Overall, this film was never going to fail to be entertaining and unbelievably hilarious - especially with Jack Black so heavily involved. It was ridiculous in all the best ways and a total romp from rockin' start to heavy metal finish.
