Star Wars: Visions - Season 2 (2023) Dir: Various

Instagram post:

I remember watching the first season of this interesting little venture into the Star Wars universe, and being absolutely delighted by the creativity and variety of it all. In spite of this, it still took me a little while longer than I would've liked to get around to the second season.

This season started strong with the wonderfully animated episode 'Sith', which was beautiful. This beauty would continue on in every episode, though in vastly different ways. It is one of my favourite things about the series, that each one is so different and stimulating.

There were nine brilliant animation studios from nine different countries involved in this second season, perhaps most notably the beloved Aardman; the studio behind the iconic 'Wallace And Gromit'. That said, the other eight studios were equally as deserving of praise for their work.

Each episode's narrative explored its own unique story, while staying in the realms of Star Wars. The series is not part of the official canon, but with its diverse range of characters and creations, it really ought to be, I think.

Furthermore, I think it is truly wonderful that each studio put in a little bit of their country's culture into their respective stories. I think episode 7: 'The Bandits of Golak' did this especially well. It cannot be emphasised enough just how good this little series is.

Overall, this continues to be one of the hidden gems on Disney Plus, as well as in the Star Wars franchise. The episodes are all less than thirty minutes long, but contain so much character and depth. This anthology series is such a celebration of not only Star Wars, but creativity. I hope the rumours of a third season are very much true.
