Justice League (2017) Dir: Joss Whedon

Instagram post:

I will preface this by saying that this is not the so-called 'Snyder Cut', but the original theatrical release. Although, it is directed by Joss Whedon, rather than Snyder. I will also say that I had not seen all the DCEU films prior to watching this, although I have seen some of them.

For what it's worth, the film's I had seen I thought were not anywhere near as poor as people suggest. However, this film truly provided nothing but mediocrity and apathy.

The CGI is truly laughable at times, and at no point was any of it truly up to the expected standard. The film has a filter which, for some reason, DC continuously seem to use on their films, despite it making them look incredibly dull.

The narrative is weak at best, with a terrible screenplay combining with some dire editing condemning this to becoming a truly terrible film. To top everything off, each and every performance in this film was mediocre and, at best, average.

Ben Affleck was a shadow of what he can be, and even what he had previously presented as Batman.

Gal Gadot was the best of the cast, but that unfortunately says very little in reality.

Jason Mamoa seemed to be trying way too hard or not at all, which made for a very inconsistent display.

Ezra Miller never looked settled on-screen and his comedic dialogue failed to land even once with the desired effect.

Ciarán Hinds was unable to give his antagonist any real weight, resulting in an uninspired performance compounded by his character's terrible animation.

Ray Fisher felt like an afterthought for much of the film, with his performance seemingly reflecting that.

I'll also mention Henry Cavill, J K Simmons and Jeremy Irons who all featured, though in no overly impressive manner.

Overall, this is, without a doubt, one of the worst superhero films I've ever seen. I genuinely struggle to see how Warner Bros thought this to be an acceptable product to release. I can see why so many DC fans were more than disappointed.
