Demon Slayer: The Entertainment District Arc (2021) Cre: Koyoharu Gotouge

As I arrived at the third 'Demon Slayer' arc, known as 'The Entertainment District Arc', I had well and truly become a fan of the popular anime series. Historically, I have not been a major watcher of animes, but there are a few that I have enjoyed, including this one, and more still that I hoped to watch in the future. Before I started any new ones, however, I was understandably very keen to watch the rest of 'Demon Slayer'.

Much like the previous two arcs, this one was full of beautiful and vibrant animation and action sequences. I love this show's epic and truly vivid artwork. Everything, from the character designs to the fantastical combat features, looked absolutely wonderful. I was especially fond of some of the demon designs for this arc, with some of the best character designs to-date coming from these antagonists.

I also thought that the action sequences were executed well, not just in terms of their design, but in their general animation too. The sweeping, fast-paced, colourful, and utterly chaotic fighting was extremely exciting to watch, especially combined with the show's dramatic soundtrack, which fit very smoothly with the on-screen action. I do think the previous arc had some ever-so-slightly better action, but I was by no means disappointed by what this season had to offer.

The narrative was interesting, but left a lot of questions unanswered - often by design, in fairness. The array of new characters were all interesting, although, it must be said, the presentation of the female characters was a little disappointing - they were evidently designed for the male viewer. Some of the side characters - the wives - also felt very shallow in nature, which was a shame. However, the development of most of the key protagonists was pretty satisfying, albeit gradual.

Overall, this was another very watchable set of episodes, which continued to provide entertainment in abundance, especially when it came to the awesome fight scenes. I am certainly excited to watch on and see where the characters go, and who they encounter next, in the fourth 'Demon Slayer' arc. If the quality of the next arc is similar to this one, I will certainly be pleased. For now, though, I think 'The Mugen Train Arc' remains my favourite, mainly thanks to its superb action.
