I had seen this Alberto Corredor directed supernatural horror film floating about on streaming services for a little while, and it very much looked like an "anything will do" type of watch. And so it came to pass that I watched it, on one of those nights where my expectations were on the floor, and I really was just hoping for some mild entertainment for ninety-or-so minutes.
There were several visual, production, and continuity errors that simply made the whole film feel tacky. Be it the dodgy special effects, including the fire in the very first scene, the laughably bad prop photo with three people sloppily edited together to look like a family, the cast being almost entirely British, despite the film taking place in Berlin, or even the eye-rollingly tropy decision to use a literal VHS tape for the exposition dumping for a contemporary film.
This film also had some of the worst writing and dialogue I've ever heard in a professional production. It was genuinely the level of a mediocre student film in quality. The narrative was tacky, repetitive, boring, and, quite frankly, laughably bad. If it had been any longer than ninety minutes, I'd have turned it off.
Freya Allen, of 'The Witcher' fame, played the film's protagonist, but failed to show any of the quality she had done in the Netflix series which catapulted her into the spotlight. In her defence, the screenplay was horrendously poor, which definitely did not help her case. However, I was very disappointed by the desperately average acting she provided, even during her stronger scenes.
Nobody was particularly convincing, to even a moderate degree, with their various supporting performances. Jeremy Irvine's acting felt amateur theatre production level at times, while the likes of Ruby Barker, Peter Mullan, and Anne Müller failed to create anything worthy of more than apathy with their respective displays.
Overall, despite my very low expectations, I still found myself immensely disappointed by the quality, or lack thereof, provided by thos film. It's genuinely one of the worst films I've ever watched, which is some achievement. I don't even think casual horror enjoyers would enjoy this one, it really is that bad. Yikes.
