It's my first review of 2021 (strange how much difference a 1 instead of a 0 makes) and it's a 90s classic here to start us off right.

This film's premise is so unique and creative, and it was so well executed. From the use of 'hidden cameras' and the reality TV esc positioning of them, to the product placement, I thought it was great.

Jim Carrey creates a classic character of Truman - I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. The way Truman drives the story, rather than the story driving him is pretty refreshing to be honest, he felt like an actual guy, and his responses to everything around him are entertaining and relatively believable for the most part.

The side characters all have their moments, but there's no way you can't give the majority of credit to Carrey here.

This film easily breaks into my top 20 all time, how high it climbs will depend on how it's feel ages in my mind. I feel like I want to watch it again already.

It's a somewhat surreal watch too, it made me think about society and how we are often engineered to think and feel certain things for the benefit of others. That may be a little cliché to say but it really does.

I'd have to read into it more but I hope and somewhat imagine that was at least one of the messages of this film. This film works for both lighter viewing and deeper analysis.

It's a PG too so it's appropriate for family viewing. It's under 2 hours as well so not too long, an ideal watch, no matter what time of day, or who's company you're in.
