Aardman have animated some of the best stop motion creations around, including, most famously, Wallace And Gromit. This was their 2012 feature effort, directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, which utilised the same iconic stop motion style that has made Aardman so popular.
It's a wonderful family comedy adventure that will have audiences of all ages laughing and having fun. The story is unique and imaginative, and takes its audience on a journey of unexpected creativity and entertainment that I for one loved.
Hugh Grant is brilliant as the film's charismatic protagonist. He uses his familiar voice to deliver a familiar combination of pomp and humour.
Martin Freeman provides the voice of the key supporting character, and while he does have a voice befitting his role, the performance delivered feels near enough the same as the vast majority of Freeman's roles.
David Tennant has a voice that is perfect for a children's film, and he uses it to give a humorous and respectable performance that has more than a little personality.
Imelda Staunton might just provide my favourite vocal performance however, as her vicous delivery and keen commitment to her role makes for a superbly threatening antagonist.
Finally, I'll give mentions to a number of the supporting cast, whom I felt added exponentially to the quality of this film; Brendan Gleeson, Anton Yelchin, Ashley Jensen, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Ben Whitehead, Russell Tovey, Brian Blessed, Al Roker and Lenny Henry.
Overall, this is exactly the kind of fun and humorous adventure that entertains all audiences, from young children to adults, with its exciting plot, entertaining characters and enjoyable animation style.
