The Boys: Season 3 (2022) Cre: Eric Kripke

Instagram post:

This third installment of one of Amazon's most talked-about and popular shows had a lot of insanity to live up to. The prior seasons had featured some of the most explicit and over-the-top violence you are likely to see, and season 3 continued in that vane. This season also sees a further descent into the dark depths featured previously.

The narrative flows on from season 2, and manages to further its arcs well with the use of a new character who presents a new threat of epic proportions - though the established antagonist, played by the brilliant Antony Starr, remains one of the most legitimately terrifying and sinister characters I've ever seen.

The presentation of said character is absolutely superb in its execution. The main arc is enthralling, but a little weaker than the prior seasons. The series did very well however, to set up new and intriguing narratives for the upcoming season 4 - leaving a lot of suspense for what will happen next.

The gratuitous violence and explicit content could make Tarantino blush, but is all part of the show's selling point and, for lack of a better term, charm.

Jack Quaid stars once again, but I have to say I didn't enjoy his character anywhere near as much as I have done before. His developments are just not as satisfying and his performance reflects that slightly.

Karl Urban also returns once again for the third season, and while he continues to produce his character's ever entertaining and endearing rudeness, he too suffers from a lack of satisfying development for much of the series. That said, he does have some genuinely touching moments in the second half of the season.

Jensen Ackles joins the show, providing a fascinating character who treads the line between good and evil phenomenally well. Ackles talent is on full display as he produces one of the most interesting characters and performances of the whole season.

Erin Moriarty, much like her fellow main protagonists, struggles to develop significantly, although there was no faulting her acting.

Laz Alonso is one of the few characters who manages to have some excellent development, which he supports with what is his best performance of the series so far.

Karen Fukuhara and Tomer Capone continue to work well together, with their on-screen chemistry unmatched on the show.

Jessie Usher has some well acted scenes, and continues to have one of the most intriguing and longrunning subplots of anyone.

Nathan Mitchell, the man who plays the mysterious "Black Noir", continues to be silently hilarious - he has been a very fun character.

Chace Crawford is superb at making his character look like an embarrassing fool - it's truly commendable how well he does.

Finally, I'll mention some other noteworthy supporting actors, those being Claudia Doumit, Colby Minifie and the talented Giancarlo Esposito - each had some good scenes, but were more in the background for the most part.

Overall, even though I preferred the first two seasons, I still really enjoyed this third installment, and I cannot wait for the fourth.
