This A24 distributed supernatural horror from Michael and Danny Philippou, aka 'RackaRacka', is a brilliant example of supernatural horror that capitalises on some excellent physical effects and sound design to emphasise the effects of its horror sequences brilliantly.

It also utilises its succinct story well, to keep the film flowing at a consistent rate, as well as allowing for some minor subplots to emerge.

My one issue is that there could have been a little more character development for the supporting roles, although there was some at least.

Sophie Wilde's performance set and controlled the tone and intensity of the film, which set it on a path to success immediately. She gave a gripping display of spiralling emotions and terror that permeated the rest of the film very satisfyingly.

Alexandra Jensen felt a little overshadowed by Wilde at times, by comparison, and while I enjoyed her performance, she could have done with more active screentime.

Joe Bird provided a really strong performance in his supporting role, especially in the second act. I was very impressed with some of his later scenes.

I will also mention a few others who were certainly worthy of mentioning; Otis Dhanji Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio and Marcus Johnson.

Overall, I would label this as a very decent modern horror, that, while not fully exploring its character relationships and arcs, still more than delivers on the scares and spooks. With a sequel already green-lit, time will tell if it lives up to this pretty strong forerunner.
