Rush Hour (1998) Dir: Brett Ratner

This film is a classic buddy cop movie, featuring the hilarious and talented duo of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. The action is fun and thrilling, using Chan's ever-entertaining and stunt-heavy acrobatic martial arts and an ensemble of well trained henchman.

The comedy is fantastic, particularly the over-the-top physical comedy. The narrative is simple enough, but does well to focus on the acting of its stars, without forgetting the main arc of the story.

Jackie Chan stars, bringing his aforementioned iconic acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, use of improvised weapons, and innovative stunts to the fore. I have always loved his acting, and this film is a perfect example of why. Furthermore, his on-screen chemistry with Chris Tucker is brilliant.

Speaking of Tucker, his classic overacting and loud flamboyance works wonderfully with Chan's more subtle characteristics. His comedic timing is also spot on throughout the whole film.

I'll also mention some noteworthy supporting actors who deserved a mention. Those being Ken Leung, Tzi Ma and Chris Penn, who many will know from films such as Reservior Dogs.

Overall, director Brett Ratner creates a classic martial arts and buddy cop comedy which has some truly hilarious moments and leaves you immensely entertained.
