Predator 2 (1990) Dir: Stephen Hopkins

When I decided to watch the sequel for the iconic 80s film 'Predator', I was expecting to see the cheesy but immensely entertaining action that made the first one so iconic.

Instead, what you have is a poorly contrived, bizarre urban-based police film that has the so-called Predator, or 'Yautja', ham-fistedly shoved into the narrative.

It just does not work. What's worse is how poorly written it all is, because, in all honesty, I think the concept had a chance if done correctly.

Sadly, director Stephen Hopkins missed the mark completely. Additionally, the CGI somehow looks worse than the 1987 film, genuinely not sure how they managed that one. On a positive note, some of the action sequences were pretty decent, although still not as good as the original.

Danny Glover is the only actor who gives a relatively solid performance, but that isn't really saying a great deal. He did what he could with a terrible script is the best compliment I can give.

Kevin Peter Hall plays the Predator, and gives a decent enough physical acting performance, but his lines of dialogue were really unnecessary, though I appreciate that isn't his fault.

Finally, I'll mention Gary Busey, Bill Paxton and María Conchita Alonso - not because they were particularly good, but they had enough scenes to warrant a mention I felt.

Overall, there is no escaping how much of a let down this was compared to the original. This sequel turned out to be a sloppy, genuinely poor sci-fi disappointment.
