This has been on my watchlist for literally years, but I never managed to get round to it until now. This sci-fi film has since spawned two follow ups - but this one was originally made as a standalone story. And as that, it works pretty well.

The premise and narrative are both simple, the characters must escape a planet swarming with carnivorous monsters. And truthfully, it really doesn't need much more to it.

The film knows what it is trying to do and executes it well. It is also very much in the vain of the 90s and 00s scifi films of the time.

The film stars Vin Diesel as the now iconic Riddick. This character suits him down to a tee. He excells in this role.

In the only really prominent supporting roles are Radha Mitchell and Cole Hauser. Mitchell produces the second best performance here, managing to create variety in her role.

Hauser however, is not as enjoyable. His acting is pretty poor and his character is weakly written. That said, his character forwards the plot in a necessary manner.

There are other characters but truthfully they are hardly worthy of note, mainly due to their substantially smaller roles.

Overall, I would say this is another good entry into the sci-fi genre. It is a film I think that any fan of science fiction or even horror will enjoy. And at less than two hours, it is not a long watch.
