Horrible Bosses 2 (2014) Dir: Sean Anders

Instagram post:

Following up on the success of the 2011 original, director Sean Anders attempted to double his money by creating a second film. However, he failed to produce anything beyond a mediocre sequel. It is definitely a weaker effort than the prior comedy, but that is not to say it is a waste of time.

New characters at least bring some new intrigue to proceedings, and while the story is nowhere near as fun as its predecessor, it still has some decent comedic moments.

The trio of Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sedeikis return to once again star, although none reach the entertainment levels that they had done a few years before. Of the three, unsurprisingly, Charlie Day is the most enjoyable, with Bateman and Sedeikis floundering by comparison.

Chris Pine joins the cast, and actually makes for a very funny character, and, in my view provided one of the better performances of anyone in the film - although that still only equated to good, not great.

By far and away the best performance however, came from the acclaimed Christoph Waltz, who seems to act the boots off of every character he plays, no matter what it is he is in. He was truly excellent as one of the film's key antagonists, and brought a little of that charismatic flair that makes him so effective.

Jennifer Anniston returns, and while she is not as entertaining as she was in the first film, she still had some of the funnier moments in the film. Her enjoyment for the role is clear, and is shown through her commitment to the character's traits.

The film also features the likes of Jamie Foxx, Jonathon Banks, Kelly Stables, Lindsay Sloane and Keegan-michael Key, who all add their own comedic flair to the film.

Overall, this is a rather mediocre, but still reasonably funny comedy that I'm sure fans of the first film will still enjoy, though certainly not to the extent of the first one.
