Carnival Row: Season 1 (2019)

For the Instagram post:

Now, this was a Amazon Prime series I began watching recently. It very quickly has become one of my favourite series.

It combines the victorian era aesthetic and base, with Guillermo Del Toro-esque fantasy and a dark murder mystery story.

It spans just 8 episodes, each around the 50 minute mark, which I feel was totally justified.

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne star and bring gritty and believable performance throughout, Bloom especially nails his character's dogged and resolute persona.

Tamzin Merhcant grows into her role well, and hits full stride in the last 2 episodes in particular.

David Gyasi is majestic and powerful as the character Agreus, his character feels levels deeper than other men could've produced from the same role.

Jared Harris shows his varied acting talents in this pretty challenging role, I was impressed.

Andrew Gower leans into his character's interesting developments well, and a final mention, though I'm missing others who did well, goes to Arty Froushan, who also felt like he grew into his character.

The story builds very meticulously and satisfyingly, it delves into several social issues that are very evident in real life and all the while throws twists and turns and builds drama and suspense immaculately.

I for one, cannot wait for the second season. However, it is worth mentioning that this series has received a mixed reception critically. I still really enjoyed though.

Season 2 is currently filming by the way, as of the posting of this review.
